1980 VW Rabbit
This is the first time that I purchased a car that was ready go right out of the box. It was built and raced for years by Bill Rutan (www.williracing.com) and then sold to Don Peasle. I purchased the car from Don in 2007 for $2,500, installed headlights, taillights, grill, etc. so that the car was street legal (though I never drove it on the public roads... I would have sooner or later). The car was street legal so that it fit into the Street Prepared class of the New England Hillclimb Association (NEHA / www.hillclimb.org). Why? So I wouldn't need a fire suit. Funny thing about that... after one race at Ascutney I (2008) where I managed a 2:59 up the hill (previous personal best in the 1.8t Golf IV with stock engine was 3:08 [first time driving that at a hillclimb] and 3:09 in my 1984 VW Rabbit GTI that I hillclimbed for years). Why did I sell it after I had such a blast driving it? Another Rabbit came up for sale at the (almost) right price... enter the Turbo Rabbit (aka Tub II).
The pictures below can't do the car justice for the time, effort, and mental abilities to enginner and construct this Rabbit.... enjoy.
